Winter Storm Warning in effect Wednesday/Wednesday night

Here is the text from the National Weather Service:

 

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM WEDNESDAY TO 6 AM CST THURSDAY...

 

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LINCOLN HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOWFALL AND NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ACROSS THE WARNED AREA...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM WEDNESDAY TO 6 AM CST THURSDAY.

 

THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

 

* TIMING...SNOW WILL BEGIN LATE TONIGHT OR EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING...POSSIBLY MIXED WITH RAIN BEFORE QUICKLY CHANGING TO ALL SNOW WEDNESDAY MORNING.

 

* MAIN IMPACT...HEAVY WET SNOW WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 7 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY FROM THE CHAMPAIGN/URBANA AND DANVILLE AREAS TO THE NORTHEAST.

 

* OTHER IMPACTS...STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS WILL GUST TO BETWEEN 35 AND 45 MPH WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING. THIS WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW TO DEVELOP ESPECIALLY BY WEDNESDAY MORNING...CREATING NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. VISIBILITIES WILL DROP TO ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS IN SOME AREAS, ESPECIALLY OUT IN OPEN AREAS THROUGHOUT CENTRAL AND EASTERN ILLINOIS. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVELING DANGEROUS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
